Hickory House

Hickory House was produced by Granada Television back in 1973. The children's program had the usual adults accompanied by series of puppets on the set. The puppets from this series included "Humphey the cushion" and "Dusty the mop head." Both puppets could move and talk independently although Dusty spent most of his time in the kitchen and Humphrey spent his time on the sofa always on the look out for a banana. Other puppets included the "Handle" family who lived in the house. The adult cast varied as it had numerous presenters which typically worked together in twos. Alan Rothwell starred with several including Louise Hall Taylor and Amanda Barrie. Alan Rothwell is better known for a whole generation of children who grew up with Granada's classic Schools program "Picture Box" (click here to listen to the music). Over 100 episodes of "Hickory House" were eventually made each lasting around 10 mins or so.
