The Chestnut Soldier by Jenny Nimmo
The Chestnut Soldier was the third in The Snow Spider Trilogy written by a great children's author Jenny Nimmo. This story leaves behind the painful history of the Griffiths family losing their only daughter Bethan and concentrates on another family, the Lloyds. Gwydion Gwyn Griffiths has grown quickly and finally accepts who he is and uses his magical powers to try and heal. Nia has become a capable young lady who allies herself to Gwyn and the Welsh mythology. The story now concerns itself with a young soldier, a Major Evan Llyr who has recently been injured in Northern Ireland. He arrives at the Lloyds quite unexpectedly (Catrin forgot to inform her mother). All the usual cast are present from the previous stories but it is amazing to see how they have changed in less than two years.
